MWOA Scholarships

Background

The MWOA each year sets aside funds for scholarships to be given at the Annual Awards Banquet in July. The amount is set and up to four awards are made. Typically these have been a minimum of $250 each along with a small stipend should the recipient and a guest be able to attend the banquet. In addition, a one year membership to the MWOA is granted to the recipient as well. In many cases – the amount available for the award is increased through the participation of other groups such as the MN Section of CSWEA or one of the Committees (Lab). This allows the recipient to receive more than $250 for their achievement.

Eligibility

Any student (or member) who is enrolled in a course of study related to water or wastewater can submit an application for the award. They must be at least half way through their course and achieve a passing grade for their effort. (Persons enrolled in a one or two year AS program must be at the half way point or greater when making application. A four year would require at least half of the credits required for graduation be completed. Should a person be working on a masters or advanced degree – supporting documentation from the institution should be made to indicate more than fifty percent completion on the course of study)

Determination of Winners

The Past President will review the applications noting the merit of their course of studies. The GPA for the course may be considered and reference or support from their instructor or councilor. There will be preference given to MWOA members, son/daughter/niece/nephew.

The applications are to be submitted (by May 15th each year for consideration) to

MWOA
3783 Lavaque Road
Hermantown, MN 55810
or emailed to
Chris Kleist chriskleist55@gmail.com

The Executive Board of the MWOA will discuss and approve the awards at their June Board Meeting and the Sec/Treas will inform winners of the procedure to attend or receive their award. Those recipients who are able to attend the banquet will be given two banquet tickets and $50.00 towards their expense to attend the meeting. If the recipient is unable to attend the banquet, either the award will be mailed to them or a Board Member can make the presentation at a local site or Section Meeting.

Letter from Scholarship Recipient

Minnesota Wastewater Operators Association

10/16/2017

Hello,
My name is Alexander Poore, I am a recipient of the 2017 MWOA scholarship this summer at the annual meeting in Grand Rapids, MN. I very much appreciate the generous $1000.00 scholarship. This money was used to help pay for my A.A.S Civil Engineering degree at Dakota County Technical College. I would also like to say thanks to the officers and members of the board, for selecting me for this scholarship. Attending the annual banquet was great fun and the food was excellent. I would also like to thank the MWOA membership and vendors for their contributions towards the scholarships.
Many thanks.

Sincerely,

Alexander Poore
