Presidents Comments
Here it is, the end of my term as president of MWOA. Where did the year
go? By the time you read this, the 35th Annual Conference will be in the
books. President-elect Linda Mullen and her committee have prepared an
informative and entertaining technical program for all the attendees. It
looks like a terrific program. I would encourage all members to attend
our annual conferences. Not only is this a great source of contact hours
for certificate renewal, but the networking and camaraderie that we have
with our fellow operators is priceless.
Some of you may be aware of a documentary that came out last year
entitled “Liquid Assets: The Story of Our Water Infrastructure” that was
produced by the Penn State Public Broadcasting. It spoke about the
growing problem this country is facing with deteriorating wastewater and
water infrastructure and what is needed to reverse that trend. If you
have not viewed it, I recommend that you do.
There is a group of operators in Minnesota that are currently working to
develop a similar documentary for Minnesota called “Liquid Assets MN”.
Andrew Sullivan from Eden Prairie and Alva Rankin from SEH are some of
the main drivers of this project that is being funded by donations from
interested parties. The City of Duluth has been contacted by Andrew to
provide some comments and video describing some of the challenges facing
them due to the aging infrastructure. The video will be used as an
educational tool for MN policy makers. If you are interested in the
development of this documentary or would like to partner in it, go to
BlueprintMinnesota.com to learn more.
Last year when I addressed the membership at the Annual Conference, I
challenge you as members to recruit one new member. I want to personally
thank all of the members who answered my challenge to bring in one new
member this past year. I’m hopeful that our organization will continue
to grow in the future years.
Again, I want to encourage you all to get involved with Minnesota
Wastewater Operators Association. Remember, Together We are the MWOA!
Sincerely,
Howard
